KCI - Product Prototyping with 3D Printing

Learn about the process that product managers and designers use to develop new products.  Students will explore the Design Thinking process as they build models of public space structures using both physical materials and the 3D rendering program, SketchUp. They will develop innovative ideas for renewable energy usage in their designs of water fountains, benches, cell phone recharging stations and other structures they imagine in public spaces.  Working individually and in teams, they will hone their skills of defining problems, collecting information, brainstorming, developing solutions, taking and giving feedback and creating iterative design solutions. Leaving the workshop, students will have physical scale models of design concepts and 3D rendered files of their concepts.
