Introduction to Minecraft Programming


   

Minecraft is an open-ended 3D game where you can build and craft anything you like. In this beginner class, students will do the following:
  • Work with the command line and /or the shell
  • Move file directories
  • Install the minecraft client and server software
  • Install java and set up your computer with Netbeans or Eclipse IDE (Integrated Development Environment)
  • Write your first program in Java
  • Build and install the HelloWorld plugin into Minecraft
  • Modify the behavior of the Minecraft Game
  • Introducing functions and variables
  • Explore and use the 'build a house" command plugin
  • Understand classes versus objects
  • Create a chat command, handle locations, and targets
  • Learn more advanced topics including designing and creating your own plugin
Prerequisite: Programming background is helpful but not required. Java is a plus. Student should be 12 years old and up.

Students are required to bring their own laptop to class. The software is freely available online and directions on how to download will be given prior to class.
